This is a real interesting video showing what’s actually deleted from a sound file when it’s compressed to mp3 format. Have a listen to Suzanne Vega’s catchy hit ‘Tom’s Diner’. Or rather the leftovers.
Ph.D. student in Composition and Computer Technologies Ryan Maguire has created this rather clear picture of how much we are missing from the mp3 compressed music. No wonder it loses so much dynamism.
