We keep playing the track ‘Geronimo’s Free’ by Ted Sirota’s Rebel Souls. It sounds awesome on our system.

Every year on this day the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra performs a free concert in Slottsskogen conducted by the young, world famous and very talented Gustavo Dudamel. Jörgen took this photo when he went last year. He said it was pretty amazing and it seem to have been a really nice day. I hope it is the same this year.
We have a lot more from Munich so we’ll be back soon.

We would’ve loved to go to the opera here in Munich, it’s supposed to be brilliant but there’s not enough time for that unfortunately. Maybe next time.

After the week at CES in Las Vegas we thought it appropriate to enjoy a few days off in cool New York. It turned out to be very cool indeed with lots of snow and chilly winds but hey, New York is New York and you can have a great time whatever the weather. And we sure did.

Right in time for the start of CES 2011 we have launched our brand new web site and proudly present it at marten.se. Have a look and tell us what you think. We spent a good few man-hours on getting this together, and think it works very well with Ulf Celander’s photos. Even if we do say that ourselves:)
If you are in Las Vegas for the CES 2011, we would like to welcome you to the Marten Tour. This year we have our own room with premiers for Coltrane 2 and M•Amp Mono Power Amplifier, as well as our M•Furniture range.

Coltrane 2 & M•AMP Mono Power Amplifier:
Marten, Venetian Room 30-130
You can also listen to our loudspeakers in these rooms:

Coltrane 2:
Engström & Engström, Venetian Room 29-128

Heritage Getz:
EAR USA, Venetian Room 30-112
Harmonic Tech, Venetian Room 30-209
Please come by and say hi. I will be back with more from CES 2011 in a bit
Lars

We found these illustrations of Jazz legends on the inspirational blog ‘The best Part‘ and loved them. They are drawn by very talented Ian Johnson. Lovely strong colours and fine geometrical lines mixed with realistic facial drawings.

Yesterday I was with some friends, at the excellent jazz-club Nefertiti in Gothenburg, to see and hear the fantastic musician Richard Bona from Cameroon. He is a long time favourite of mine and I have heard him live several times before.
It was a great concert which had a wide variety of styles. He mixes jazz, funk, blues and African rythms in a very attractive and sometimes genius way. He is a real master of his instrument (bass), and his band was not bad either. Especially the drummer Obed Calvaire and the keyboard player Etienne Stadwijk.

He has released a new album called “The Ten Shades of Blues”. I have not heard the album yet but he played a few songs from it and it was very promising. The sound quality is usually very good on Bona´s records.
Thank you Richard Bona for a great concert.
Leif

One Friday night in February we got a table at the brilliant jazz spot called Nefertiti in Gothenburg. We suffer from a very cold and extremely snowy winter in Gothenburg and we needed to warm ourselves with some high quality live music.

After CES earlier this year we went to New York for a few days and re-discovered how easy it is to find good live music. There are loads of incredibly talented artists playing every night of the week in this city.

After a nice authentic NYC dinner at the classical institution Peter Luger Steakhouse in Brooklyn, we arrived quite late at the Terra Blues Club in Greenwich Village. Having eaten a good chunk of delicious meat we were in the best of moods. We got a table, ordered a few beers and then the music started. What a shock – we were totally blown away by this guitarist and his trio. Loud, long, powerful jamming tunes that sometimes went from one song and seamlessly changed over to another one. Suddenly a trumpetist arrived at the dark stage playing a solo – and this underlined the openness of the music.
